Mazda 323

Automobiles

The Familia, sold abroad as the Mazda 323, Protege, GLC and Allegro, was Mazda's small family car from 1963 to 2003 across nine generations. It was the first Mazda to be exported in numbers and the first with front wheel drive, from 1980, and it was sold in Japan as the Familia and as the Ford Laser, Meteor, Escort and Mercury Tracer by Ford. Mazda replaced it with the Mazda3, called the Axela in Japan, for 2004. This site gives every generation and every model year its own page, in 9 generations: the first generation (1963 to 1966); the second generation (1967 to 1972); the third generation (1973 to 1976); the fourth generation (1977 to 1979); the fifth generation (1980 to 1984); the sixth generation (1985 to 1988); the seventh generation (1989 to 1993); the eighth generation (1994 to 1997); the ninth generation (1998 to 2003).
