The Tracer was a compact Mercury car sold from the 1987 to 1999 model years as the replacement for the Mercury Lynx. It was the first Mercury since 1960 without a direct Ford counterpart in North America, developed by Mazda and derived from the Ford Laser, and later generations served as the counterpart of the Ford Escort. Mercury discontinued the Tracer after 1999 as Ford began phasing out the Escort in favor of the Focus. This site gives every generation and every model year its own page, in 3 generations: the first generation (1987 to 1989); the second generation (1991 to 1996); the third generation (1997 to 1999).
