For 1995 a passenger airbag was added to the Tracer, requiring a redesign of the dashboard, although the automatic seat belts were retained through 1996. The Trio package continued to be available. The Tracer was a compact four door sedan and five door station wagon on a 98.4 inch wheelbase, a counterpart of the Ford Escort, with the 1.9 litre CVH inline four as its standard engine. It was the Mercury counterpart of the Ford Escort.
