For 1994 the Tracer was given a driver's side airbag as a passive restraint, and a Trio package became available on the base Tracer sedan and wagon, featuring a leather wrapped steering wheel, seven spoke aluminum wheels shared with the Ford Escort LX Sport and a Trio decal on each fender. Sedans with the Trio package also had rear decklid spoilers. The 127 horsepower 1.8 litre engine was offered from 1991 to 1994. The Tracer was a front wheel drive compact derived from the Mazda 323 and Protege.
