The 1992 Tracer was derived from the front wheel drive Mazda BG platform, officially designated the Ford CT120 platform, sharing a 98.4 inch wheelbase with the Escort and Protege. An 88 horsepower 1.9 litre CVH inline four was the standard engine, and a 127 horsepower 1.8 litre Mazda BP inline four was offered from 1991 to 1994. A five speed manual was standard with both engines. Only a base model and the LTS trim were available.
