For the United States a five door station wagon was introduced for 1988, sharing nearly identical sheet metal with the Mazda 323 wagon. The Tracer shared its exterior with the Ford Laser, distinguished by a Mercury grille, badging and wheel covers. In line with the Lynx and the larger Topaz, Sable and Grand Marquis, it offered GS and LS trims in addition to a base L trim. 5,489 Tracers were sold in Canada in calendar year 1988.
