1979 Mazda 323

Automobiles

Thanks to the safety bumpers mandated by federal regulations, the 1979 base GLC three door weighed 905 kilograms and was 3,920 millimeters long. A 1.6 liter engine arrived in early 1979, but period testers felt it offered little over the 1.4. It was developed with input from Ford, which had acquired a stake in Mazda in 1979, and had a twin called the Ford Laser, and the Ford Meteor for the saloon in Australasia. In Europe all Familias sold after 1977 were called 323.
