The eighth generation Familia, the BH and BA, appeared in 1994, with the saloon called the Protege in North America, 323S in Europe, 323 Protege in Australia and Allegro in Colombia. A 1.7 liter intercooled turbo diesel bought from Isuzu was used in saloons from October 1994, and the 1.3 liter B3-ME engine made 73 to 84 PS. The Lantis, Astina and 323F hatchbacks came with it. The Familia was also sold as the Ford Laser and Ford Meteor, and as the Ford Escort and Mercury Tracer in North America.
