The Familia Rotary coupe won its first outing, at the Grand Prix of Singapore in April 1969, and Mazda entered a pair of them for the year. The Familia also placed fifth at the Marathon de la Route at the Nurburgring in 1969, the same race at which the Cosmo had made its debut the previous year. The road going Familia Rotary was sold beside the piston engined cars. Kia built a version of the Familia as the Brisa. The Familia name means family in Latin, and export versions were sold as the 800, 1000, 1200 and 1300.
