The North American Ford Escort was a small car sold by Ford from the 1981 to the 2003 model years, the direct successor of the Pinto and the first of Ford's world cars. It was built over three generations, a subcompact hatchback first and then two compact generations on a Mazda based chassis, and was sold in Mercury form as the Lynx and the Tracer. The Focus replaced it from the 2000 model year. This site gives every generation and every model year its own page, in 3 generations: the first generation (1981 to 1990 model years); the second generation (1991 to 1996 model years); the third generation (1997 to 2003 model years).
