1983 Ford Escort (North America)

Automobiles

For 1983 the exterior of the Escort was largely carried over, and most of the changes were concentrated on the Escort GT and the EXP coupe, which was based on it. On the liftback and wagon Escorts the unnamed base model was dropped, leaving the L trim as the standard model. The 1.6 liter CVH engine continued with its high output version for the GT, and the Mercury Lynx remained a sister car. The first generation served as the basis for the longer wheelbase Tempo and Topaz.
