For 1999 the sedan received a minor visual revision to the rear, with the reverse lamps integrated into the taillamp units, and an interior trunklid release to comply with federal regulations. A very rare trim package with chrome wheel covers was offered. During the 1999 model year Ford released a limited edition higher performance ZX2 S/R, debuting at the SEMA Import Auto Salon, of which 110 were built in yellow.
