1987 Ford Escort (North America)

Automobiles

For 1987 the trim lineup was simplified to Pony, GL and GT, with the Pony and GT offered only as three doors. The model year saw the retirement of the Mercury Lynx, replaced by the Mercury Tracer, a rebranded Ford Laser derived from the Mazda 323. The standard engine adopted throttle body fuel injection in place of the carburetor, with output at 90 horsepower, and the diesel engine was discontinued because of low demand.
