1988 Ford Escort (North America)

Automobiles

The Escort saw a second facelift in mid 1988, commonly called the 88.5 year, which smoothed out the front and rear fascias with integrated plastic bumpers in place of metal ones, enlarged rear side windows and a more rounded rear. Larger 14 inch wheels replaced the 13 inch ones on non-GT cars, and automatic shoulder belts were fitted to meet passive restraint rules. The engines received a slightly revised camshaft and roller lifters, taking the GT to 110 horsepower.
