In June 2002 the final Ford Escort sedan left the assembly line, after two model years limited to fleet sales. The coupe, now simply called the ZX2, was still sold to retail buyers for the 2002 model year. The Escort had been produced at Wayne Stamping and Assembly in Michigan for its whole life, and the second and third generations also at Hermosillo in Mexico. That left only the ZX2 coupe in production.
