1981 Ford Escort (North America)

Automobiles

The Escort arrived as a 1981 model after its October 1980 launch, with the Mercury Lynx as its sister car. It was first offered as a three door hatchback and a five door wagon, with a five door hatchback added in May 1981. To show its world car status Ford put a badge with a globe on the front fenders, used for 1981 only. The CVH 1.6 liter engine made 65 horsepower, and an SS package with blacked out trim, stripes and wide tires was available.
