The Plymouth Belvedere name began in 1951 on a pillarless two door hardtop in the Cranbrook line, became Plymouth's top full size series in 1954, and turned into an intermediate car in 1965 before the Satellite replaced it after 1970. Over those years it carried Virgil Exner's Forward Look styling, the Slant Six engine, the 426 Hemi that won at Daytona in 1964, and later the GTX and Road Runner performance models. The word is Italian for beautiful sight. This site gives every generation and every model year its own page, in 7 generations: the Cranbrook Belvedere (1951 to 1953); the full size 1954 to 1956 (1954 to 1956); the full size 1957 to 1959 (1957 to 1959); the full size 1960 to 1961 (1960 to 1961); the intermediate 1962 to 1964 (1962 to 1964); the intermediate 1965 to 1967 (1965 to 1967); the intermediate 1968 to 1970 (1968 to 1970).
