In 1960 the Belvedere received the new overhead valve Slant Six, tilted thirty degrees to allow a lower hood and soon famous for toughness and long life, in place of the old flathead six, and unit body construction was used across the line. Exner's styling team was encouraged to go over the top, so the 1960 car was nicknamed the jukebox on wheels and the 1961 cars were not well received despite good performance and handling. Its model years run from 1960 to 1961.
