1961 Plymouth Belvedere

Automobiles

The 1961 models were not well received, unfairly maligned in the words of one writer simply for being different, since the cleaner finless look was on its way in. Despite being good cars in performance, handling, modest weight and appealing interiors, they sold poorly. Under Chrysler president William Newberg, Virgil Exner's design team had been told to make distinctive styling, which led to the distinctive 1960 and 1961 cars.
