The 626 was Mazda's mid-size car, called the Capella in Japan and the 626 in Europe, North America and Southeast Asia, built from 1970 until 2002 across six generations. Ford used its platform for the Telstar and the Probe, and 4,345,279 of the 626 and Telstar were sold worldwide. It began rear wheel drive, turned front wheel drive in 1982, and was succeeded by the Mazda6 in 2002. This site gives every generation and every model year its own page, in 6 generations: the first generation (1970 to 1977); the second generation (1978 to 1981); the third generation (1982 to 1986); the fourth generation (1987 to 1991); the fifth generation (1992 to 1996); the sixth generation (1997 to 2002).
