The 626 came fifth in the 1984 European Car of the Year, the highest finish up to that date for a Japanese car. The Sierra wagon, a Ford Telstar estate, was released in May 1984, available in 1.6 and 2.0 liter versions, and the 626 L entered production in Colombia with CCA in May 1984 as a four door sedan with a 92 PS 1.8 liter engine. The 626 was Mazda's mid-size car, competing with the Honda Accord, Toyota Corona and Nissan Bluebird.
