The Escape was Ford's first SUV built on a car platform, a compact crossover that ran for four generations across the model years 2001 through 2026. The first was developed with Mazda and sold in Europe as the Maverick, and its 2005 hybrid was the first hybrid SUV on the American market. Later generations came from Ford of Europe as the twin of the Kuga. The Mercury Mariner and Mazda Tribute were its first and second generation siblings. Ford announced in August 2025 that it would end the model after the 2026 model year. This site gives every generation and every model year its own page, in 4 generations: the first generation (2001 to 2007); the second generation (2008 to 2012); the third generation (2013 to 2019); the fourth generation (2020 to 2026).
