Production of the 2013 Ford Escape began on 11 April 2012, with ceremonies in June 2012, and the new Escape became available at most dealerships in May 2012. It was designed with Ford of Europe alongside the European Kuga, claimed to be ten percent more aerodynamic, and brought the MyFord Touch system and an optional hands free liftgate. The SEL trim of the third generation was discontinued after the 2013 model year.
