The third generation Escape was first shown at the 2011 Los Angeles show, designed with Ford of Europe alongside the nearly identical European Kuga, and released in North America in 2012 for the 2013 model year. It was claimed to be ten percent more aerodynamic and introduced the MyFord Touch system and a hands free liftgate. Many markets that had used the Escape nameplate switched to Kuga under One Ford. A refresh came in late 2015 for the 2017 model year. Its model years run from 2013 to 2019.
