The second generation Escape debuted at the 2006 Los Angeles show, redesigned to stay competitive with new compact SUVs but carrying over most internals for the 2008 model year, on the CD2 platform shared with the Mazda Tribute and Mercury Mariner. Ford added electronic stability control for 2008 and gave all three versions engine and transmission upgrades for 2009. Manufacture ended in 2012, when production moved to Louisville, Kentucky, for a new Escape based on the Kuga. Its model years run from 2008 to 2012.
