In 2014 the third generation Escape was offered with a 2.5 liter naturally aspirated base engine in the S trim and two EcoBoost turbocharged four cylinder engines on higher trims, with a six speed automatic or dual clutch automatic. The 1.6 liter EcoBoost engines were subject to recalls for fires after November 2013, and Ford recalled 2014 Escapes again in March 2017 over overheating and a risk of engine fires.
