The Ranchero was Ford's coupe utility, a car based pickup that merged the cab and cargo bed into a two door wagon or sedan body. It was introduced in December 1956 for the 1957 model year, shrank onto the Falcon in 1960, followed the Fairlane and Torino platforms and ended with the LTD II based car of 1979, with 508,355 built. It prompted the Chevrolet El Camino in 1959. Seven generations are recorded; the Argentine Ranchero, a Falcon pickup built to 1991, is separate. This site gives every generation and every model year its own page, in 7 generations: the first generation (1957 to 1959); the second generation, Falcon Ranchero (1960 to 1965); the third generation (1966 to 1967); the fourth generation (1968 to 1969); the fifth generation (1970 to 1971); the sixth generation (1972 to 1976); the seventh generation (1977 to 1979).
