The 1962 Ranchero was in the third year of the Falcon based second generation, a compact coupe utility built on the sedan delivery body of the Falcon, with the 144 and 170 cubic inch sixes. The Ford O Matic two speed automatic and the three speed manual were available. The Chevrolet El Camino, which the Ranchero had spawned in 1959, was a rival as GM and Chrysler moved to compact cars. The second generation Ranchero ran from 1960 to 1965 and was based on the Falcon sedan delivery.
