The 1959 Ranchero was built with the same 118 inch wheelbase as all 1959 Fords, which gave it the advantage over its predecessors of a longer 7 foot bed. The Custom Ranchero was the only model marketed in 1959, offered in 26 colors: 11 solid shades, 11 two tone combinations with white on top and four other two tone choices. The 1959 year also saw the introduction of Chevrolet's El Camino as a rival.
