The first generation Ranchero was introduced in December 1956, three months after the traditional September model year start, based on the full size Ford platform, specifically the short wheelbase Custom sedan, the two door Ranch Wagon and the Courier sedan delivery. The 1958 version had new front sheet metal inspired by the Thunderbird and four headlamps. The 1959 model had a 118 inch wheelbase and a longer 7 foot bed. Its model years run from 1957 to 1959.
