Toyota Celica

Automobiles

The Toyota Celica is a sporty automobile that Toyota produced from 1970 until 2006 across seven generations. It was shown at the Tokyo show of October 1970 alongside the Carina and aimed at the North American market as Toyota's answer to the Ford Mustang. In August 1985 its drive layout changed from rear wheel drive to front wheel drive, and all wheel drive turbocharged GT-Four models were made from October 1986 to June 1999. A six cylinder variant became the Celica Supra in 1978 and was spun off as a separate model in 1986. Toyota coined the term liftback for its fastback hatchback. Generations with their own pages on this site: the first generation, A20 and A30 (1970 to 1976); the second generation, A40 and A50 (1977 to 1981); the third generation, A60 (1981 to 1985); the fourth generation, T160 (1985 to 1989); the fifth generation, T180 (1989 to 1993); the sixth generation, T200 (1993 to 1999); the seventh generation, T230 (1999 to 2006).
