The facelift of the second generation was launched in August 1979, bringing square headlights, a new grille and revised tail lights in place of the round headlights of early cars. From 1979 until 1981 the Griffith company in the US offered a Targa style convertible conversion called the Sunchaser. It was model year 3 of 4 in the Toyota Celica (second generation, A40 and A50), 1977 to 1981, coming after the 1978 model year and before the 1980 model year. Model year pages for the Toyota Celica run from 1970 to 2006.
