The fifth generation Celica was introduced in September 1989 for the 1990 model year. In August 1990 the wide body Liftback GT-Four A and a convertible were added in Japan, and the 20th Anniversary GT-R was released in December 1990 to celebrate twenty years of the nameplate. Toyota facelifted the car in August 1991 for the 1992 model year, and in September 1991 launched the GT-Four RC, a special rally edition of 5000 units for Group A homologation.
