The 5 Series is BMW's executive car, introduced in 1972 as the successor to the New Class saloons and now in its eighth generation. It began as a four door saloon, added a Touring estate in 1991 and sold a Gran Turismo fastback between 2009 and 2017. Each generation has carried a factory code, from the E12 to the G60, and a high performance M5 version has sat at the top of the range since the E28. This site gives every generation and every model year its own page, in 8 generations: the E12 (1972 to 1981); the E28 (1981 to 1988); the E34 (1988 to 1996); the E39 (1995 to 2004); the E60 (2003 to 2010); the F10 (2009 to 2017); the G30 (2016 to 2024); the G60 (2023 to 2026).
