1993 brought the V8 to the E34, with the 530i and 540i models powered by the BMW M60 engine, the latter at the top of the range in saloon and wagon bodies and with a six speed gearbox. The V8 cars were first distinguished by a wide grille. The 535i was replaced and the 525td diesel was added to the line. The Alpina B10 3.0 AllRad was also built from 1993. The M5 was discontinued for non European markets in 1993, leaving the V8 540i as the top car in the United States.
