1981 BMW 5 Series (E28)

Automobiles

The E28 went into pre series production in April 1981, with series production starting in July, and the car was introduced in the autumn. Styled under Claus Luthe, who began development in 1975, it replaced the E12 with straight four and straight six petrol engines. The 5 Series now had a more modern but still recognisable shape, and the 6 Series coupe would share its platform from 1982 until 1989.
