Toyota Hilux

The Toyota Hilux is a series of pickup trucks built by the Japanese manufacturer Toyota, sold in most markets worldwide under the Hilux name, a portmanteau of High Luxury reflecting its originally comparatively well-equipped positioning against more spartan contemporary trucks. Built predominantly as a pickup or cab-chassis, though offered in a variety of body styles across its history, the Hilux was renamed Pickup and later Truck for the North American market starting in the mid-1970s before eventually being replaced there by the Toyota Tacoma in 1995, while retaining the Hilux name across the rest of the world. Since its seventh generation, introduced in 2004, the Hilux has shared its ladder-frame IMV platform with the Toyota Fortuner SUV and Innova MPV, and by 2017 cumulative global Hilux sales had reached roughly 17.7 million units, making it one of the best-selling pickup truck lines in the world.
