In October 1981 the L series diesel engine was offered on the four wheel drive variants too, and the N40 chassis was available as a double cab body style starting in October 1981. In 1981 a vehicle development agreement was established between Toyota, Winnebago Industries and two other aftermarket customizers for the Trekker. It was the last model year covered for the Toyota Hilux (third generation, N30 and N40), 1978 to 1982, and the Toyota Hilux (fourth generation, N50, N60 and N70) came next, following the 1980 model year. Model year pages for the Toyota Hilux run from 1968 to 2026.
