Subaru Rex

Automobiles

The Rex was Subaru's kei car from 1972 to 1992, built mainly for Japan but exported under names such as Ace, Viki, Sherpa, 500, 600, 700, Mini Jumbo, M60, M70 and M80. It followed the R-2, which itself followed the Subaru 360, and began as a rear engined two cylinder car before turning front wheel drive in 1981. Commercial van versions were sold beside the passenger cars, the second generation was stretched into the Justy, and the Vivio replaced it in 1992 after about 1.9 million had been built. This site gives every generation and every model year its own page, in 3 generations: the first generation (1972 to 1980); the second generation (1981 to 1986); the third generation (1986 to 1992).
