Kamov is a Russian rotorcraft manufacturer, formally JSC Kamov, based in Lyubertsy, whose Kamov Design Bureau, using the aircraft prefix Ka, became known for compact helicopters with coaxial rotors suited to naval service and high-speed operation. It was founded by Nikolai Ilyich Kamov, who began building his first rotary-winged aircraft in 1929 together with N. K. Skrzhinskii, and up to 1940, the year the Kamov plant was established, they built many autogyros, including the TsAGI A-7-3, the only armed autogyro to see limited combat. From 2002 the company was controlled 51 percent by AFK Sistema and 49 percent by MiG, and it was sold to Oboronprom in 2005. Kamov later merged with Mil and Rostvertol to form Russian Helicopters, which kept the Kamov brand name while dropping overlapping product lines.
