Kamov Ka-26

Lighter-Than-Air Craft and Rotorcraft

The Kamov Ka-26, NATO reporting name Hoodlum, is a Soviet light utility helicopter with co-axial rotors. It entered production in 1969 and 816 were built. The fuselage has a fixed bubble-shaped cockpit for the pilot and co-pilot plus a removable module for medevac, passenger or crop-duster use, and it can fly with or without the module. Two 325 hp (239 kW) Vedeneyev M-14V-26 radial engines sit in outboard nacelles. It is especially useful for crop dusting, because the coaxial rotors give a gentle, even airflow; Hungarian operators spray vineyards with it. The single-turboshaft Ka-126 and twin-turboshaft Ka-226 derive from it.
