Kamov Ka-226

Lighter-Than-Air Craft and Rotorcraft

The Kamov Ka-226, NATO reporting name Hoodlum, is a small twin-engine Russian utility helicopter with an interchangeable mission pod in place of a conventional cabin, so it can take various accommodation or equipment configurations. It is the twin-turbine version of the piston-engined Ka-26, announced in 1990 for the Russian disaster relief ministry. It first flew on 4 September 1997, was certified to Russian transport categories on 31 October 2003 and entered service in 2002. Production ran at Strela in Orenburg and then at Kumertau, which delivered Ka-226.80 batches to the Russian Ministry of Defence. The Ka-226T, with Turbomeca Arrius 2G engines, finished certification in April 2015.
