Land Rover is a British brand of four-wheel drive vehicles that began in 1948, when the Rover Company put a plain farm and utility off-roader on sale under that name. It grew from the Series models into the Defender, the Discovery and the Range Rover family, and today its range consists only of premium sport utility vehicles. For a time between 1978 and 2012 it was also a company in its own right. The brand has changed hands several times and is now owned by Jaguar Land Rover, a subsidiary of Tata Motors, which builds the vehicles in the United Kingdom, Slovakia, India, Brazil and China.
