In May 2015 the two millionth Series or Defender Land Rover was built by a special team and auctioned later in the year in aid of the international federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent, IFRC. In the same month Land Rover asked fashion designer Paul Smith to design a one-off Defender to mark the end of production, finished in 27 colours inspired by the vehicle's long service with the armed forces, fire, coastguard and mountain rescue and by the British countryside.
