Defender production ended on 29 January 2016 after a continuous run of 67 years from the first Land Rover in 1948. The last vehicle, a soft-top 90 with the number plate H166 HUE in reference to the first pre-production Land Rover, left the Solihull line at 9:22 that Friday morning and was the 2,016,933rd Defender made. In all just over two million Series and Defender Land Rovers had been built. A replacement was said to be due in 2018 or 2019, and a one-off Paul Smith edition marked the end.
