The Velar was first shown in teaser photographs on 22 February 2017, unveiled at the Design Museum in London on 1 March and officially launched at Geneva on 7 March. Orders opened soon after, and the first deliveries reached dealers in the summer. It was a new mid-size Range Rover on the D7a aluminium platform of the Jaguar F-Pace, built at Solihull, with Ingenium engines and a new design language that emphasised sportiness and on-road ability.
