The Chrysler New Yorker was Chrysler's most prestigious model for most of its run, starting as the New York Special trim of 1938, taking the New Yorker name in 1939 and ending in 1996, which made it the longest running American car nameplate. It moved from straight eights to Hemi and wedge V8s, from rear wheel to front wheel drive and from huge fuselage cars to small K car based sedans, and it was available as a sedan, coupe, convertible and wagon over the decades. This site gives every generation and every model year its own page, in 14 generations: the first generation (1939 to 1942); the postwar 1946 to 1948 (1946 to 1948); the ponton bodies 1949 to 1954 (1949 to 1954); the Exner styling 1955 to 1956 (1955 to 1956); the Forward Look 1957 to 1959 (1957 to 1959); the unibody 1960 to 1964 (1960 to 1964); the C body 1965 to 1968 (1965 to 1968); the fuselage 1969 to 1973 (1969 to 1973); the last C body 1974 to 1978 (1974 to 1978); the R body 1979 to 1981 (1979 to 1981); the M body (1982); the E platform 1983 to 1987 (1983 to 1987); the C platform 1988 to 1993 (1988 to 1993); the LH platform 1994 to 1996 (1994 to 1996).
