For 1982 Chrysler downsized the New Yorker onto the intermediate M body chassis of the LeBaron, which moved to the K car platform, shedding nearly fifteen inches of length while keeping rear wheel drive. It was offered only as a four door sedan with the formal four window roofline of the Fifth Avenue, and it was the first New Yorker with a six cylinder engine, the 3.7 liter Slant Six, with a V8 as the only option. Its model year was 1982.
