For 1982 Chrysler downsized both its New Yorker and LeBaron lines, with the New Yorker adopting the intermediate M body chassis of the latter, and the LeBaron became the flagship of the K car line. While still rear wheel drive, the New Yorker shed nearly fifteen inches of length, and it was offered solely as a four door sedan, dropping the two door coupe and the five door station wagon. The Fifth Avenue returned as its flagship trim.
