The twelfth generation New Yorker, released in the spring of 1983, was the first front wheel drive New Yorker and the smallest ever, on the Chrysler E platform with the wheelbase stretched to 103.3 inches and a padded landau vinyl roof. It had a four cylinder engine, a turbocharged option and technological extras such as a trip computer and Electronic Voice Alert. The M body car continued separately as the Fifth Avenue. Its model years run from 1983 to 1987.
